FAILSWORTH VS. GOOGLE: The Battle for the M35 Postcode!

If you live in Failsworth, you probably know exactly where Failsworth is.

You know the streets.
You know the M60 cuts through part of it.
You know Daisy Nook, Woodhouses, and the little pockets that have always been Failsworth.

But according to Google… some of you might not live here anymore.

“Oldham” … Really?

Recently, we’ve noticed something strange.

Addresses that are clearly in Failsworth — M35 postcodes, long-standing homes, businesses that have always identified as Failsworth — are sometimes being labelled as:

  • Manchester

  • Oldham

  • Or something else entirely

Depending on where a map pin lands, Google may decide you’re no longer in Failsworth at all.

For residents, it’s confusing.

For local businesses, it’s a bigger issue.

Why It Actually Matters

You might think, “It’s just a label.”

But online, that label affects:

  • Business listings

  • Google Maps visibility

  • Delivery areas

  • Local directory searches

  • How customers find you

If Google says you’re in another town instead of Failsworth, you may not appear when someone searches for “Failsworth electrician” or “Failsworth café”.

That directly impacts small local businesses serving our community.

The M60 Line

One of the most confusing areas appears to be around the motorway boundary.

On some digital maps, it looks like Failsworth stops at the M60 — even though residents on the other side still have M35 postcodes and have always considered themselves part of Failsworth.

The road hasn’t moved.
The community hasn’t moved.
But digitally… the boundary sometimes has.

Don’t Worry — We’re Working On It

If Google has quietly “moved” you out of Failsworth, don’t panic.

We’re actively raising this and working to get the boundary reviewed so that Failsworth residents and businesses are correctly recognised.

Because Failsworth is more than a digital pin.
It’s a community.

If your address is being labelled incorrectly, let us know. The more examples we gather, the stronger the case we can make.

We’re campaigning to get you back where you belong.

In the meantime, we’ve implemented a fix on our listings pages, overriding Google’s authority, so you can still list as Failsworth with us.

Failsworth is Failsworth.
