Profile
Crime Lake sits within Daisy Nook Country Park, a 40-hectare countryside park known for waterways, woodland and wildflower meadows. The lake is one of the park’s most relaxing stops: still water, plenty of birds, and that classic “you forget you’re near the city” feel.
According to Oldham Council, Crime Lake was formed in 1795 after a canal culvert blockage flooded the Crime Valley. The council also notes that “Crime” is an old word connected to land intersected by a stream/watercourse—so the name is rooted in landscape history rather than anything modern.
If you’re building a simple local trail, Crime Lake works brilliantly because it’s free, scenic, and links naturally into the wider Daisy Nook paths and waterways.
