Profile
Located in the memorial garden on Oldham Road (corner of Field Street), Failsworth War Memorial commemorates those lost in the First World War and has been a focal point for remembrance since it was unveiled on 10 June 1923.
The memorial is made from Portland stone with unusual coloured decoration and is topped by a bronze winged figure of Victory and a laurel wreath. The main face includes “Remembrance 1914 1918”, and the rear carries the inscription: “They died in many lands that we may live here in peace.”
The memorial garden has also been improved over time, including a re-dedication of the gardens in June 2007.
Tip: Visit on Remembrance Sunday to see how the space is used by the community (please be mindful and respectful).
